How to make your own chai spice mix and nut milk chai

Make your own chai spice blend for a creamy, warming vegan drink that's free of hidden sugars and additives all year.

The chai spice combination is ideal as a present for birthdays or holidays. Put it in a nice jar with a cute label and give it to someone you care about.

To make the chai, you must first prepare the chai spice blend.

Spice blend for chai

a third cup of cinnamon chips (Alternatively, 5 cinnamon sticks can be used)

a quarter cup of cardamom pods

a quarter cup of anise seeds

a quarter cup of coriander seeds

2 teaspoons black pepper

12 tablespoons whole cloves

1 tablespoon of fennel seeds

In a container, combine all of the spices.

To prepare chai

2 quarts of water

1 tablespoon chai spice blend

1–3 cm ginger root

1/2 cup homemade nut milk — strained almond or hazelnut milk works great.

2 cups water, brought to a boil In a tea sieve, combine the chai spice blend and fresh ginger.

Put the strainer in the boiling water.

Reduce the heat to low and cook for 10 minutes. Add the nut milk near the end of the 10 minutes and continue to cook until the nut milk is warm.

Take out the sieve (careful, it will be hot).

Fill your favourite cup with tea then sit back and relax!
