The joy breath gets your energy flowing, wakes up your entire system, and helps you start your day off right!

This practice can be completed in about 3 minutes per day. Set your desire for this joyful breath to awaken your entire body.

Please note that if you have high blood pressure or eye disorders such as glaucoma or an eye injury, this is not suggested.

Inhale in three parts

Place your feet shoulder-width apart and slightly bend your knees. Swing your arms up in front of you, shoulder height, palms facing up, and inhale to fill one-third of your lungs (think you're only filling up the bottom section). (Then lower your arms.)

Inhale again (same inhalation) while swinging your arms to the sides at shoulder height, imagining you're filling up two-thirds of your lung capacity. (Then lower arms) Inhale deeply while swinging the arms parallel along the front of the body all the way up, over the head, palms facing each other.

Exhale completely.

Exhale deeply, bending the knees deeply, hinging from the hips as you bend forward sweeping your arms down and along the sides up behind you.

These three actions (rapid inhalations) must be completed in a row. Rep them as many times as you'd like, up to nine times. If you want, you can do this while sitting on a chair.

Things to remember when doing the Breath of Joy: If you start to feel light-headed, slow down or stop. Allow yourself to get caught in the beat of the Breath of Joy sequence as soon as it becomes familiar. The rhythm will be there one day, then the next will be a little more difficult. Don't let yourself down. Increasing your energy flow is a fantastic method to revitalize your system, and it's a great way to start the day by doing something good for yourself.
